Check out this column by Brian Lewis of the News-Leader.
While I'm not highlighting this as an example of great column writing, he's doing something here that I think is very important for good column writing. Do you know that that is?
Here's the link for your exercise today:
I have to attend the faculty senate meeting tomorrow. We will have class. Jack Diamond will be in charge. I'll have another exercise for you re: reviews. Be sure to read the examples I handed out. (Sorry, no cheesy prizes this time.)
I'll be in class again on Thursday to continue our discussion about reviews.
I'll be back in class this week. I'll give you the gory details about my faculty senate service today.
I'll be making a few syllabus changes--mostly moving two of the article deadlines back a bit. More details in class.
Well, I thought I'd be finished with the current Senate project (we're revamping the faculty handbook). Unfortunately, I must attend today's meeting. So I've devised another in-class exercise so that class can keep moving forward in my absence.
Dr. Tom Dickson will conduct the class.
To MED581 and JRN378 students: Nothing changes for you.
As I said yesterday, I won't be in class today. But you will still meet and complete an exercise in teams of two (the best three teams win a cheesy prize).
If you haven't done so already, be sure to read Keith Olbermann's commentary about the recent speech by Donald Rumsfeld.
I have to attend another Faculty Senate meeting--this one's really important. I'll be able to bag the rest that conflict with class.
Class will still meet. Dr. Tom Dickson will take over for the day.
I'll post an assignment here tomorrow morning that will help you start working with the columns you've been reading. Watch for it.
I have to attend an important faculty senate meeting today. So there will be no JRN374 class today. Please pass the word.
Also, please be sure to read the columns I passed out on Tuesday. We'll begin discussing them and the Rumsfeld-Olberman dust-up next week.
