Just push the buttons…

The question is not “Why do liberals keep going on Bill O’Reilly’s show“? The question is “Why does anyone take him seriously”? That’s the mistake his hapless guests make.

The fact is that O’Reilly’s playbook is so easily read and countered, and his buttons so obvious and easy to push, that one could figuratively assassinate him on live television.

But, that would require a guest understanding that the show is about the entertainment of verbal combat (and the pathetic promoting of certain socio-political values) and not about any particular issue. I don’t think ol’ Bill is prepared to handle a guest who understands that what’s going on is a gladiatorial game and not a serious debate.

By happenstance today I ran across this relevant piece of advice from Ben Franklin.
