What FOX watchers know…

I don’t have a lot to say right now about a recent study that purports to demonstrate that people who watch FOX News are less well informed about the war in Iraq than those who get their news from other sources. I haven’t read the report for myself yet. And it’s for sure I don’t want to trust some pundit to do it for me.

Since journalists are notorious for misinterpreting data, I think it’s a good idea to take an “unmediated” look at the study:

I noticed that a lot of bloggers assumed a cause-and-effect relationship between the proportion of “misinformed” viewers/readers and the medium they favored. (That is, they assumed that the level of misinformation among Fox viewers was highest BECAUSE they watch Fox News.) It’s not clear to me whether *any* relationship exists, let alone one of cause and effect.

Lex…exactly. That’s why I want to spend time with this report before I spout off :-)
