Dean named to Columbia J-school…

I’ve been following the search for a Dean for the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism as part of my occasional focus on journalism education (begin background here). Lee Bollinger, president of Columbia University, has hired Nicholas Lemann, the Washington correspondent for The New Yorker, as Dean. (See NYT article)

Further, Bollinger released a 10-page statement about his vision for journalism education. I plan to comment on this document shortly.

UPDATE (4:00 p.m.): By “shortly,” I mean tomorrow. I’m swamped with student papers to grade.
