Say Hello to Crazy
Apparently you can fall over dead if you blog too much.
Luckily, I think this fate is unlikely to befall me. I'm just not that obsessive about Rhetorica. I'm certainly serious about it.
As I explain in my blogging policy (a code of ethics of sorts), I do not try to make money from this blog. I'm not even sure I could if I wanted to. Well... OK...I am sure :-) As one can easily see from the NYT article, if you want to make money blogging you're probably stuck with a limited range of topics.
Here's my question: Why go to all this trouble? You can get a job writing about politics or technology. And you only have to actually know something about one of those topics.
Perhaps a better plan is to use a blog as a platform from which to launch other projects. Rhetorica has worked out very well for me in that regard. I hope to have more news about a particularly interesting project--springing from one of my chief concerns--before the fall semester begins. Stay tuned.
