Embedding Works

Bob Somerby has some sobering details about what happens when political reporters get total access to a candidate.

Why does this occur? Somerby has his take on it, and I won’t argue with him. But let me add that part of the problem may be that political reporter’s today are in the information business. They should, however, be in the knowledge business.

Part of the problem is that stories of the horse race and entertaining little details about a candidate’s life are just soooooo much easier to cover (and to think about) as one tries to feed the 24-hour news cycle.

(That, BTW, is no excuse.)
