Too Much High Tech

Fat Jack points to an interesting web site for teachers called Teacher Tube--a repository for video and podcasts of all things educational. I'm not sure I like this idea.

I'm a big fan of the internet and blogging. No secret there. The Rhetorica Network includes two blogs written by my students--Bang It Out! and The Golden Mean. I've been using blogs in education since 2003.

And I really like the idea behind the MIT Open Courseware initiative. If you're looking for a reason to love the web, this is it.

But I'm not sure I want to participate in anything that might encourage students to 1) not attend class and 2) not read the assigned material (this is a huge problem today).

I rarely lecture. My classes are all discussion based, which means, in part, that we will follow the thread of discussion where it leads--not always to the place indicated in the syllabus. So what I could post would be educational tips or other sorts of specific instruction (especially regarding journalistic discourse).

Hmmmmm... I'll think about it.
