How to sell space…

I hear the voice of Jim McKay:

Spanning the universe to bring you the constant variety of stellar events…the thrill of exploding birth and the agony of eventual collapse…the human drama of disembodied intergalactic exploration.

But it’s all just impossibly distant events unfolding in lengths of time nearly unimaginable to the human frame of reference. That is unless you can tell a human story to put it all into some kind of dramatic perspective. Jay Manifold is correct: If you want to sell the nebulous, put some human drama into it. And, yes, “Starry Night” has always been my favorite.
