What a hoot, part 2…

American Candidate lives on Showtime. According to the show’s website:

The show will debut in Summer 2004 with 12 contestants from all walks of life. Over the course of the series, those 12 will face off against each other and will be narrowed down through audience participation. The final episode will be a showdown among the remaining contestants, and one person will emerge victorious–the “American Candidate.”

Hmmmm…sounds a lot like the regular election except the press does most of the narrowing.

Back when this first came up, I declared that I would apply for the show. Well, nothing’s changed. I filled out the online form and received an official application. I’ll keep you posted on the process.

Oh, and there was little form for a 400-character statement about why I wanted to be a candidate. Here’s what I wrote:

“Obviously, no one on this show has a chance to be elected. But I do see the potential to make a political impact on the election by raising certain issues in certain ways outside the normal campaigning procedures. The candidate selected by this show will be able, by force of publicity and novelty, to command a level of civic attention unlike the “man in the street.” I am up to that challenge.”

Yeah, right.
